The latest MBRRACE-UK report on maternal mortality reveals high levels of inequality and little progress in reducing maternal deaths, especially among migrant women and those known to social care. The report highlights increased maternal deaths among women known to social services and the ongoing issue of maternal suicides. The report also points out poor experiences of recently migrated women in maternity care, with inadequate interpretation services. Improvement opportunities were identified in nearly half of the cases reviewed. To address these issues, the government and NHS must invest in equitable maternity care, improve interpretation services, and create a national health and social care pathway for at-risk women.
