A recent study conducted by researchers from the Karolinska Institutet in Sweden found that a child’s body weight pattern during the critical years of lung development can have long-lasting effects on lung function. The study, which involved 3,200 children, concluded that both high and low BMI values can result in impaired lung function in adulthood. The researchers emphasized the importance of managing BMI levels during childhood to reduce lung function issues. Maintaining normal somatic growth patterns is crucial for optimal lung health, as highlighted in the study published in the European Respiratory Journal. Principal investigator Dr. Erik Melén emphasized the importance of optimizing children’s growth during early life and adolescence.
