The government and Eli Lilly are partnering to conduct a five-year real-world trial called Surmount-Real UK to evaluate the weight loss drug tirzepatide’s impact on health outcomes and employment status. The study will focus on weight loss, prevention of obesity-related complications, quality of life, and changes in employment status and sick days. The trial will be conducted in partnership with Health Innovation Manchester and the University of Manchester, led by principal investigator Martin Rutter. Details such as the number of participants, inclusion criteria, and start date are not yet known. The goal is to assess the efficacy and safety of tirzepatide in a primary care setting compared to usual care.
