A recent multi-state study published in The Lancet analyzed real-world data on the effectiveness of the RSV vaccine in older adults. The research showed that the vaccine provided approximately 80% protection against severe respiratory illness, hospitalization, and death in adults aged 60 and older. The study, conducted by the CDC’s VISION Network, used electronic medical records from diverse U.S. health care systems to assess vaccine effectiveness. The findings highlight the importance of vaccination in reducing the burden of RSV-related hospitalizations and deaths among older adults during the respiratory disease season.
