New research highlights the role of the Clec14a protein in capillary endothelial cells in controlling bone growth and maturation. The study explores the orchestrating role of this protein in osteoblast activity, particularly during trabecular bone formation. Clec14a was found to be highly expressed in type-H endothelium in bone metaphysis, influencing bone vascularization and localization of osteoblasts. Deletion of Clec14a resulted in enhanced bone growth and altered gene expression associated with osteoblast proliferation and maturation. Overall, the study identifies Clec14a as a key player in skeletal development and bone formation.
