Exposure to air pollution was linked to higher incidence of ischemic stroke among women under 65 years old and residents in areas with high alcohol and tobacco consumption. The study analyzed 8 million participants in eastern Poland from 2011 to 2020, finding a correlation between air pollutants and increased risk of ischemic stroke. The study recorded 146,262 cases of ischemic stroke, with in-hospital mortality rate of 14.92%. Exposure to PM2.5, NO2, BaP, and SO2 showed increased risk for ischemic stroke onset. Exposure to air pollutants also had stronger effects on individuals under 65 years old, women, and residents in regions with high alcohol and tobacco consumption.
