A citizens’ jury in England has recommended that the law should change to allow for assisted death through physician assisted suicide and voluntary euthanasia for those with terminal conditions. The Nuffield Council on Bioethics published an interim report on the jury’s findings, proposing that legal and medical advice be sought to protect vulnerable individuals and prevent them from feeling pressured into making decisions. They recommended that in all cases, an onsite medical practitioner should oversee the administration of medication to provide support and guidance. The jury concluded that assisted death should be legal for those with terminal illnesses and the capacity to make their own decisions.
