Taylor Takla, a Ph.D. candidate at Wayne State University, received a grant of $96,812 to study fear of falling in individuals with multiple sclerosis (MS). Fear of falling is a major concern for those with MS, leading to negative health and quality of life outcomes. Takla aims to break the cycle of fear of falling by examining neural, motor, cognitive, and psychological factors underlying it. By understanding these factors and targeting them through rehabilitation strategies, the goal is to reduce falls and increase physical activity in the MS community. The research will involve advanced MRI techniques and comprehensive evaluation of behavioral functioning to gain a better understanding of fear of falling and its consequences.
