A study conducted by Nathan Efron and colleagues found that toric soft contact lens prescribing almost doubled internationally from 2000 to 2023. The researchers analyzed data from over 220,000 soft daily single-vision lens fits and found that toric soft lens prescribing increased from 24.4% in 2000 to 46.2% in 2023. Men were more likely to be prescribed toric soft lenses compared to women, and the mean age of toric lens wearers was higher than that of spherical lens wearers. The researchers attributed the increased prescribing rate to improved manufacturing capabilities and confidence in the performance of toric lenses.
