Baby deaths review will be ‘ongoing’, with findings to be published

admin

A review of perinatal deaths in Ireland between 2021 and 2023 will begin later this year. The review will be confidential and carried out by the National Perinatal Epidemiology Centre, focusing on babies who died at 37 weeks of pregnancy or up to one week after birth. Anonymised findings will be published to ensure objectivity. Concerns raised by Safer Births Ireland about previous cases where baby deaths resulted in High Court proceedings due to failings in care have prompted the review. The HSE aims to improve services and learn from themes that may emerge from the review process, with a commitment to transparency in publishing the findings.
