Novant Health’s attempt to acquire two hospitals north of Charlotte was halted after a federal court of appeals temporarily prevented the purchase. The deal, which would have given Novant near-monopoly power in the region, was called off due to opposition from the Federal Trade Commission. Novant, a nonprofit hospital system with $8 billion in revenue, expressed disappointment in the FTC’s actions, stating that the facilities and patients would have greatly benefited from joining Novant Health. Despite their vision to restore lost services and provide high-quality care, Novant sees no way to finalize the transaction due to continued roadblocks from the FTC.
