Osteoarthritis is a prevalent and disabling condition with increasing burden on global healthcare systems. A study presented at the 2024 EULAR congress highlighted the associations between osteoarthritis and various comorbidities across four European countries. Findings showed that conditions such as chronic back pain, hypertension, and depression were more common in individuals with osteoarthritis. Importantly, certain comorbidities like fibromyalgia and polymyalgia were consistently associated with osteoarthritis both before and after diagnosis. These results emphasize the need for better management strategies for individuals with osteoarthritis and call for further research to explore the causal relationship between osteoarthritis and its comorbidities.
