A recent study from the University of Stirling, Scotland, U.K., found that men with obesity who received text messages with cash incentives were four times more likely to lose weight. The Game of Stones study followed 585 men for a year and showed that those who received up to £400 ($507) along with text messages lost the most weight. Participants were randomly assigned to one of three groups: text messages and cash incentives, text messages only, or no rewards. Men who received both text messages and cash incentives lost 5% of their weight, while those who received text messages only lost 3%. Cash incentives were found to be an effective motivator for weight loss in men.
