Binge eating disorder is the most prevalent eating disorder in the United States and may last longer in individuals than previously believed. A recent study found that achieving full remission from the disorder can take several years, with relapses being common. The study followed 137 adults with binge eating disorder for five years and found that 61% still had the disorder after 2.5 years and 45% after five years. These findings contradict earlier studies that suggested quicker remission times. Understanding the long-term effects of binge eating disorder is important for providing better care to individuals struggling with this condition.
