Researchers at Montefiore Einstein Comprehensive Cancer Center have developed an AI-based patient navigation tool named MyEleanor to increase colonoscopy completion rates among patients who initially canceled or did not show for their appointments. The tool nearly doubled completion rates among non-attendees, leading to a 36% increase in colonoscopy volume. The tool, available in English and Spanish, provided reminders, offered live transfers to reschedule appointments, and identified barriers to access. The study highlighted transportation issues, mistrust of medical providers, and fear of findings as common barriers. The success of the tool may improve cancer screening outcomes, particularly among vulnerable populations.
