Paris Hilton Speaks up for California’s ‘Troubled’ Teens

Heiress Paris Hilton is advocating for federal oversight of the troubled teen industry, sharing her own experiences of abuse in residential facilities as a teenager. She testified in support of a bill in California ordering disclosure of the use of restraints or seclusion rooms in disciplining minors at these facilities. Hilton has already successfully advocated for similar bills in other states. The proposed federal Stop Institutional Child Abuse Act, supported by Hilton, is currently stalled in Congress. The California bill she is supporting aims to protect young people in residential therapeutic programs by requiring transparency and reporting on the use of restraints and seclusion rooms.
