Baby food manufacturer Nestlé has been criticized for adding high levels of sugar to cereals marketed in lower income countries while offering no added sugar options in Switzerland. The investigation by Public Eye and IBFAN found that Cerelac and Nido products in Senegal and South Africa contained 6g of added sugar per serving, while similar products in Switzerland had no added sugar. This double standard has raised concerns about Nestlé’s ethics and its impact on the health of children in developing countries. Euromonitor data shows Cerelac as the top baby cereal brand worldwide, with sales exceeding $1bn.
