Consultants in England have voted to accept the government’s improved pay offer, with 83% in favour. This deal includes pay uplifts ranging from 2.85% to 12.80% in addition to a 6% pay award for 2023-24, backdated to March 1, 2024. Both the BMA and the Hospital Consultants and Specialists Association recommended acceptance of the deal, which was approved by a 61.9% turnout in the BMA referendum. The acceptance of the deal ends a year-long dispute with the government. This decision comes after consultants previously rejected a pay deal in January due to concerns about fairness.
