Nearly 1 in 5 adults with congenital heart disease in Israel experienced abnormal heart rhythms during a five-year study, leading to an increased risk of hospitalization and early death. The study involved over 11,000 adults with congenital heart disease and highlighted the importance of ongoing clinical follow-up for this population. Different types of abnormal heart rhythms were associated with varying levels of risk, and the presence of surgical scar tissue in the heart further increased the risk of arrhythmias. Early detection and management of arrhythmias are crucial to prevent complications and improve outcomes for adults living with congenital heart disease.
