Brain tumors exploit body’s daily rhythms to fuel growth

Research shows that daily glucocorticoids promote glioblastoma growth and synchronize its circadian rhythms with the host, impacting tumor progression. Circadian rhythms play a significant role in glioblastoma treatment, with previous studies showing timing chemotherapy to circadian rhythms improves efficacy. Glucocorticoids, often used in glioblastoma treatment, are also under circadian regulation and can either suppress or promote tumor progression. Understanding how circadian rhythms contribute to glioblastoma progression may enhance treatment effectiveness. Targeting glucocorticoid receptor signaling and leveraging circadian dynamics could improve therapeutic strategies for glioblastoma management.
