The UK government has announced plans to ban TV advertisements for junk food products before 9 pm starting in October 2025 in an effort to reduce childhood obesity. Paid online junk food ads will also be prohibited to limit children’s exposure to unhealthy foods. Health Secretary Wes Streeting emphasized the importance of addressing obesity to improve children’s health and reduce healthcare costs. Additionally, data from the Office for National Statistics shows that life expectancy in many parts of Great Britain is still below pre-pandemic levels, with a widening gap between the highest and lowest life expectancies.
