New proposals aim to hold NHS managers accountable for silencing whistleblowers or putting patients at risk. Those found guilty could be sacked and barred from working in the NHS permanently. This move is intended to address a culture of cover-up in the health service that has played a role in patient safety scandals. Health minister Karin Smyth emphasized the need for transparency and quality leadership in the NHS, while preventing failed managers from moving between different organizations.
