A recent study found that among cancer survivors with chronic musculoskeletal pain, auricular acupuncture was less effective than electroacupuncture at reducing pain. This type of acupuncture, also known as battlefield acupuncture, also had higher rates of discontinuation. Pain is a common and debilitating symptom in cancer survivors, with many patients being undertreated for their pain. The current opioid crisis further complicates pain management in this population. The study highlights the importance of finding effective and sustainable pain management strategies for cancer survivors experiencing chronic musculoskeletal pain.
