The influence of harmful industries on health professionals, academia, and health systems must be addressed for significant change to occur. Industries like tobacco and food use economic power to avoid regulation, impacting both human and planetary health. The World Health Organization defines these as commercial determinants of health. Many sectors, including pharmaceuticals, alcohol, and food, fund individuals and organizations involved in regulation, creating conflicts of interest. Industry funding compromises research agendas and patient care. To address this, all stakeholders must recognize and address the harm caused by conflicts of interest, implement clear policies, and prioritize public health over economic interests.
