The 2023 Annual Report of the Medical Council revealed that it received the highest number of complaints in the last five years, with a total of 353 complaints about doctors. The Council conducted 32 investigations into unregistered medical practitioners working as doctors, reporting one individual to Gardai and the Minister for Health. The report also highlighted the increasing complexity in the concerns or complaints received by the Council. Despite the rise in complaints, the Council emphasized that this represents only a small percentage of all doctors and does not reflect the majority of the profession. The report also noted the importance of supporting doctors, particularly those facing difficulties in war zones and natural disasters.
