A global analysis has estimated that more than 800 million adults worldwide have type 1 or type 2 diabetes, which is four times more than in 1990. The study found that almost 60% of adults over 30 with diabetes did not receive treatment in 2022, a significant increase from 1990. While treatment rates have improved in high income countries and some emerging economies, they have stagnated in low income countries where diabetes rates are increasing. This highlights widening global inequalities in diabetes treatment, especially concerning as people with diabetes in low income countries tend to be younger.
