Children with multiple long-term conditions are at a significantly higher risk of death, hospitalization, and other severe outcomes after contracting COVID-19. A systematic review and meta-analysis of 111 studies revealed that these patients were more than twice as likely to die compared to those without multiple conditions. The risk was higher for hospitalization, ICU admission, and mechanical ventilation as well. The findings suggest that public health policies should prioritize individuals with multiple long-term conditions, especially during public health crises like the COVID-19 pandemic. Men were found to have a higher risk of ICU admission and mechanical ventilation.
