A team at Mount Sinai developed a deep learning algorithm to monitor infant movements in the NICU, providing real-time insights into neurological health. This AI tool could revolutionize neurologic monitoring in NICUs and detect changes early for faster interventions. The team trained the algorithm on video data from 115 infants in the NICU and found it accurately predicted sedation and cerebral dysfunction. The system, known as Pose AI, could work across different lighting conditions and angles. This technology aims to complement traditional assessments and provide continuous monitoring for better outcomes. The team plans to test the tool in more NICUs and explore its application to other conditions.
