A cohort study compared prostate cancer patients with a control group and found that those treated for prostate cancer had higher rates of complications, including urinary and sexual issues. Radiotherapy was associated with increased risks for bladder cancer and radiation-specific complications. The study followed 29,196 participants over a median of 10.2 years and analyzed ten potential treatment-related complications. Results showed a significant increase in hazard risk for complications in patients who had prostatectomy compared to controls, as well as higher risks for bladder cancer and radiation-specific complications in radiotherapy-treated patients. The study authors emphasized the importance of patient counseling before prostate cancer screening and treatment.
