The executive in charge of AstraZeneca operations in China is under detention by Chinese authorities investigating employees for potential illegal activities. AstraZeneca confirmed that Leon Wang, an executive vice president overseeing international operations, is being investigated along with a small number of employees. Five current and former AstraZeneca employees in China were arrested for questioning last summer. Among them is Eva Yin, now chief commercial officer at BeiGene, who worked at AstraZeneca for over 15 years, most recently as general manager of its oncology business in China. This information was disclosed after AstraZeneca acknowledged the investigations last week.
