Treatment for breast cancer includes surgery, radiation therapy, and systemic therapies such as chemotherapy, hormone therapy, targeted-drug therapy, and immunotherapy. Systemic therapies aim to inhibit cancer cell growth or eradicate them from the body. Chemotherapy is commonly used to shrink tumors, while hormone therapy blocks the estrogen receptor in hormone-sensitive cancers. Targeted-drug therapy focuses on specific abnormalities in cancer cells, such as HER2 proteins. Immunotherapy trains the immune system to identify and kill cancer cells. The goal is to individualize treatment based on the right drug, at the right dose, for the right patient to effectively fight breast cancer.
