Research from the University of Toronto found that childhood neglect, even without sexual or physical abuse, is associated with various mental and physical health issues in adulthood. Neglect was linked to conditions such as stroke, asthma, depression, and cognitive impairment. The study, using data from over 41,000 American adults, showed that neglect survivors with supportive adults and higher education had better health outcomes. Factors like socioeconomic status and supportive adults contribute to resilience in neglect survivors. The findings suggest the importance of interventions and support systems to improve health outcomes for individuals who have experienced childhood neglect.
