Tuberculosis (TB) is on the rise, with an estimated 8.2 million cases in 2023, the highest since 1995. While deaths decreased to 1.25 million, the total number of cases rose to 10.8 million. Drug-resistant TB affected around 400,000 people, with only 40% receiving treatment. Global efforts have saved 79 million lives since 2000, but there are still disparities in TB-affected regions, primarily in Southeast Asia, Africa, and the Western Pacific. The lack of funding in low- and middle-income countries is hindering progress. Men are disproportionately affected compared to women and children. WHO calls for countries to commit to ending TB by using prevention and treatment tools.
