Prof Anne Scott has been appointed as chair of the panel to evaluate Ireland’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic. Healthcare groups welcome this appointment, hoping to assess the government’s response and improve future preparedness. The panel will focus on the healthcare system, economic and social responses, and impacts on education and businesses. It will also consider the response in long-term care facilities for older persons. However, clinical decisions and specific epidemiology will not be evaluated. Prof Scott, a Professor Emerita at University of Galway, will lead the inquiry, with other panel members to be confirmed. The evaluation aims to learn from the pandemic and strengthen healthcare systems.
