A recent report published in JAMA Network revealed a significant increase in autism cases in the U.S., particularly among young adults, with rates nearly tripling over the past decade. The study analyzed data from over 12 million patients and found a 175% spike in diagnosis rates. The research also showed an increase in autism diagnoses among young adults aged 26 to 34, with rates highest among young children. The report highlighted a closing gender gap in autism diagnoses and noted that there were greater increases in ASD prevalence among minority groups. Researchers suggest that increased awareness and changes in screening practices may be driving these trends.
