Several modalities effective in geographic atrophy diagnosis

Different imaging modalities are effective for diagnosing geographic atrophy, with newer technologies such as blue-light fundus autofluorescence providing sharper contrast than traditional color fundus photography. Retina imaging using confocal color, green fundus autofluorescence, and OCT are also effective for diagnosis and monitoring progression of geographic atrophy. While microperimetry is not ideal for initial diagnosis, it can be helpful in tracking functional progression. As more therapies become available for geographic atrophy, technological advances, including AI tools for automatic quantification, will play a crucial role in managing patients and utilizing different imaging methods.
