A case report published in Oncoscience discusses a 51-year-old man with stage IV non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and brain metastasis who achieved a complete and long-lasting response to immunotherapy after whole brain radiotherapy. Approximately 20% of lung cancer patients have brain metastases at diagnosis, impacting prognosis and quality of life. The use of immune checkpoint inhibitors has changed the prognosis for stage IV lung cancer patients, but the optimal treatment sequencing for those with brain metastases remains unclear. The patient in the case report has survived for 87 months overall and 73 months without progression, suggesting that the combination of WBRT and immunotherapy may have contributed to his positive outcome.
