A Breathlessness Clinic that combines pulmonary and palliative care has been found to improve access to treatments for diverse and underserved populations with advanced lung disease. Established by Rebecca Anna Gersten, MD in 2022 at Johns Hopkins Hospital, the clinic aims to provide targeted symptom management and advance care planning. Research presented at the CHEST Annual Meeting showed that the clinic served a more diverse patient population compared to the ILD clinic and effectively supported patients in completing advanced care planning. The study highlighted the importance of integrating palliative care resources and providers in pulmonary clinics to address disparities in end-of-life care.
