A recent study by environmental health scientists at Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health analyzes the impact of major air pollution and climate policies in New York City between 1998-2021. The study found significant improvement in air quality city-wide and particularly in communities disproportionately affected by air pollution. The researchers used air monitoring data and cohort studies to compare reductions in pollutants such as particulate matter and nitrogen dioxide. The study highlights the health benefits, especially for children, and supports the need for further environmental and social policy changes to mitigate the adverse health impacts of air pollution. The research was supported by the John and Wendy Neu Foundation and the New York Community Trust.
