A study presented at UEG Week 2024 found that computer-aided diagnosis (CADx) is less effective in diagnosing neoplastic polyps in the proximal colon compared to the distal colon. The review collected data specifically for the proximal and distal regions of the colon, with lower specificity and accuracy in the proximal colon. The study recommended not using current CADx systems in the proximal colon until new, higher performing systems are developed. The differences in performance may be due to the molecular and morphological features of polyps in different regions of the colon. Further research is needed to improve CADx accuracy in diagnosing colorectal polyps.
