Broad Institute announces layoffs, largely in IT, software engineering

The Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, a leading biotech research center, has laid off 87 employees as a result of the rapid pace of technological and scientific advancements in the field. The layoffs coincided with the conclusion of a partnership with Microsoft. In an email to staff, the institute’s director, Todd Golub, explained that the layoffs were necessary to stay ahead in their field.
