A report by The Lancet Commission on Investing in Health reveals that 37 countries have successfully cut the probability of premature death before age 70 in half since 1970. The report outlines a roadmap, known as “50 by 50,” which aims to reduce premature mortality for all countries by 2050 through targeted health investments. By prioritizing 15 health conditions that cause premature deaths and implementing policies such as public subsidies for essential medicines and increased taxation on tobacco, countries can significantly reduce premature deaths. Achieving the “50 by 50” goals could lead to a 15% chance of dying before age 70 for individuals born in 2050.
