Colorado’s Naloxone Fund Is Drying Up, Even as Opioid Settlement Money Rolls In

The Harm Reduction Action Center in Denver distributes free naloxone kits to prevent fatal opioid overdoses, funded by Colorado’s Naloxone Bulk Purchase Fund, which is running out of money. Despite an increase in availability, opioid-related deaths continue to rise in Colorado. The fund has received some additional funding from grants, but long-term solutions are still being explored. Colorado has received over $110 million in opioid settlement funds, but most of the money has already been allocated to other programs. Organizations like The Naloxone Project and CeDAR are concerned about losing access to free naloxone and potential funding competition.
