Researchers at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia have discovered rare neurological issues of paraparesis and quadriparesis in children, adolescents, and young adults following CAR-T therapy for B-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. These complications occurred without the typical inflammation seen in adults. The study found chronic damage to white matter in the brain without the usual inflammatory response. Despite the lifesaving effects of immunotherapy like CAR-T for most patients, understanding these rare instances where it is not effective is crucial. Further research is needed to comprehend the underlying causes of these neurological side effects in younger patients receiving CAR-T therapy.
