The vaccine targets proteins essential for the bacteria’s survival, preventing disease and improving the elimination of the bacteria from the gut. By utilizing mRNA technology, the researchers were able to create a multipronged vaccine that stimulated the immune system to produce proteins necessary for fighting the bacteria at different stages of its life cycle. Testing showed that the vaccine was highly effective in mouse models, offering a promising new approach to combating C. difficile infections.
