Experimental vaccines and therapeutics for Marburg virus are set to arrive in Rwanda for clinical trials, with no licensed drugs or vaccines currently available for the virus. The outbreak in Rwanda, with a significant number of cases among healthcare workers, has prompted swift action to conduct trials. The US government is supplying doses of vaccine and antibody for the trials. The Sabin Vaccine Institute is providing a single-dose vaccine that is furthest along in development, with 700 doses being sent to Rwanda. The country’s readiness to conduct trials and the collaboration between different organizations is crucial in responding to the outbreak effectively.
