The chair of the Royal College of General Practitioners expressed concern over new data revealing that GPs in deprived areas of England are responsible for significantly more patients than those in wealthier areas. The gap between patient load in deprived and affluent areas has widened over the past six years, with at least 300 more patients per doctor in deprived areas. The number of patients per fully qualified, full-time GP in the most deprived areas has increased by an average of 260 in the past six years. This information was shared as part of RCGP’s analysis ahead of their annual conference in Liverpool.
