WHO unveils comprehensive strategy to combat dengue and Aedes-borne arboviruses

The World Health Organization has launched the Global Strategic Preparedness, Readiness and Response Plan to address dengue and other Aedes-borne arboviruses, aiming to reduce disease burden and deaths through a coordinated global response. The plan includes priority actions for disease control, recommendations for affected countries, and focuses on various sectors such as surveillance, vector control, and research. Dengue cases have doubled annually since 2021, with 12.3 million cases reported in August 2025. The plan emphasizes the need for emergency coordination, surveillance, community engagement, healthcare, and access to countermeasures. It will be implemented over one year with a budget of $55 million and calls for collaboration to combat arboviruses.
