In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, two College of Medicine cancer researchers received grants totaling $200,000 from the Florida Breast Cancer Foundation to support innovative projects in fighting breast cancer. Alicja Copik focuses on enhancing natural killer cells to target and kill cancer cells, while Debbie Altomare explores cellular pathways in pancreatic and ovarian cancer. The funding will help Copik refine her technologies for breast cancer treatment and Altomare investigate the role of growth factors in cancer cell growth and immunity. The College of Medicine’s Cancer Research Division is dedicated to exploring new ways to combat cancer through genetic and immune-based therapies.
