Research presented at the American Academy of Pediatrics 2024 National Conference & Exhibition revealed that while violence prevention education in U.S. schools has increased, only 1 in 10 schools require discussions on the topic. Chloe Gao’s study focused on efforts made by schools to prevent bullying, sexual harassment, and violence. The data showed that two in three schools reported violent incidents, yet many did not provide families with information on bullying and harassment. Gaps exist in program quality and availability across states. Gao emphasized the urgent need for improved policies and measures to combat youth violence in schools, particularly for teen girls experiencing sexual violence.
